The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) is responsible for collecting, compiling, analyzing, and disseminating statistical information in a user-friendly manner, emphasizing user needs over production-centered approaches. The 2021 Population and Housing Census (PHC), conducted every ten years, provides essential demographic, socioeconomic, and housing data for research, policy, and planning, crucial for tracking national and global development goals. To bridge the gap between censuses, GSS has produced population projections for 2021-2050, offering insights into future demographic trends by sex, locality, age, and region, aiding policymakers, researchers, and the public.

These projections are designed to inform national development, facilitate collaborative planning, and support intersectoral policy design. GSS emphasizes the importance of timely and accurate data to guide development efforts.

Acknowledgements extend to the Government of Ghana, various ministries, local governments, security services, development partners, and numerous organizations and individuals for their support and dedication to the census process. Notable contributions came from UN agencies, international organizations, the private sector, and educational institutions, whose support in technical, logistical, financial, and advocacy aspects was crucial. The general public, media, census officials, and field officers were also recognized for ensuring a successful enumeration. Special thanks were given to subject matter experts and team members involved in validating and reviewing the projections. Click here to view details
