Remarks by the Government Statistician, Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu

Virtual Implementation Support Mission – 3rd & 7th July 2025

The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has, over the past five years, been implementing the Harmonising and Improving Statistics in West Africa Project (HISWAP), funded by the World Bank. This flagship initiative has been instrumental in strengthening statistical capacity, improving data quality, and enhancing regional integration of statistical systems across West Africa.

As part of its oversight responsibilities, the World Bank undertakes an annual Implementation Support Mission to review project progress. These missions provide a structured platform to assess achievements, identify challenges, and agree on actions to further enhance project delivery. The review covers critical areas such as fiduciary management, environmental and social safeguards, and technical implementation progress.

During last year’s virtual mission, held on 3rd and 7th July 2025, Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu, in his remarks underscored the importance of these engagements, and expressed his deep appreciation to the World Bank for its continued support and collaboration, not only with GSS but across Ghana’s National Statistical System. He noted the partnership has been instrumental in helping GSS push the boundaries of what’s possible with data in this country.
